Anxiety Therapy

Anxiety often feels like a deep, relentless motor inside you constantly churning out racing thoughts, excessive worry, and physical body tension throughout your system. You might have lived with it for so long that it’s your baseline as you move throughout life, or it might have started recently. Either way, your nervous system has found it’s way into survival mode, believing it’s protecting you by keeping you on high alert for real or perceived threats. While understanding the origins of anxiety can be meaningful and effective, healing doesn’t depend on having all of the answers in order to solve this problem. Healing from anxiety often involves helping your nervous system learn that it is safe to experience thoughts, emotions, sensations, and uncertainty in new ways. So much of the time, anxiety is often maintained by avoidance, fear, attachment patterns, and self-protective strategies that accidentally signal to the brain that you are in danger. By building a different relationship with your internal experiences through experiential learning (through ERP, ACT, Brainspotting, and the therapeutic relationship), you get to teach the brain that whatever you are having anxiety about, you can handle it. Over time, your anxiety will reduce and you will feel empowered by what you have managed to accomplish.
